Tata Safari and Harrier With Petrol Engine Coming Your Way In Dec

Tata Safari and Harrier - the two most luxurious and high-tech flagship models from Tata Motors - have faced a major issue since their launch. The only engine option available so far has been a diesel, which makes them less preferred by customers, especially in Delhi-NCR, where diesel vehicles have a limited lifespan of just 10 years.

To address this, Tata will finally launch both these SUVs with a new 1.5L turbo-petrol engine, which will debut first with the upcoming Sierra on November 25. 1.5L Turbo Petrol Engine

This engine was first showcased at Auto Expo 2023, and quite few months, we have seen the test mule of Safari and Harrier being tested, and we believe the testing is happening for this engine. But first we'll see this powertrain in Tata Sierra launching on November 25th. The power figures are 170 hp at 5,000rpm and 280Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,500rpm, as it was revealed in the Auto show back in 2023.

This engine will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and, most likely, a dual-clutch automatic transmission - the same setup Tata currently offers with the Curvv, Nexon, and Altroz. However, this is just our speculation; Tata could also opt for a 6-speed torque converter instead. That said, another key update is that the base variant of the Sierra will come with a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine - though we don't expect this unit to make its way to the Harrier and Safari. Well, let's wait until November 25 to get a clearer picture of what Tata has planned.
